Rob Stuart, MSc

Personal Profile

Hi, I’m Rob Stuart – a psychodynamic counsellor with over 10 years of experience based in Walthamstow Village, East London.

I trained at Birkbeck College, University of London, where I received an MSc in Psychodynamic Counselling and Psychotherapy. As part of my training, I spent over 4 years as an honorary psychotherapist at Central and North West London NHS Foundation Trust.

In addition, I have almost 20 years worth of mental health experience working in a wide variety of different roles and settings in the public, private and third sectors.

Before training to become a counsellor, I received a Post Graduate Diploma in Psychology from the Open University and a BA in Philosophy and Politics from the University of East Anglia. I retain an interest in politics and society to this day.

I've been invited to speak on the subject of unconscious aspects of the climate crisis by several organisations including the Institute of Psychoanalysis, OPUS, Birkbeck Counselling Association, Wessex Psychotherapy Society and The Harry Guntrip Trust.

My articles have been published by New Associations, the Climate Psychology Alliance, Open Democracy, Organisational and Social Dynamics and Socioanalysis (upcoming in 2027).

As well as my work as a counsellor, I'm also a director of a charity called OPUS (An Organisation for Promoting Understanding in Society), where I'm responsible for the "Listening Post" - an international project designed to study unconscious aspects of global society.

Finally, as a political activist, I support a wide variety of different causes and have been arrested several times for participating in non-violent direct action with of Extinction Rebellion, Insulate Britain and Just Stop Oil.

In my spare time, I enjoy spending time in nature, walking, cycling, reading, writing, listening to live music and drinking real ale.
